R. viriosum is one of two Australian endemic vireyas found in North Queensland on 7 tropical mountain tops, above 1,000m, north of the Barron River. R. viriosum refers to the straight corolla versus the curved corolla of R. lochiae. A research project is currently being undertaken to access the morphological differences of each population and changes when grown under the same conditions in one location.
