Excerpt from President’s Report.
I’m pleased to submit my first report as President to the ARSV AGM.
Firstly, there were no changes to the Committee, or Officers, noting that we welcome Michael Hare back to the Committee.
It has been a busy year for the ARSV Tuesday Group at the Dandenong Ranges Botanic Garden. Over the last 12 months, the Group has been active with maintaining and rejuvenating important Rhododendron collections at the gardens. The Group completed the first round of planting of the azalea species collection adjacent to the tea house, with a series of new garden beds displaying 26 Asiatic azalea species with more to be added as stock become available. With the 2024 establishment of the North American deciduous azalea bed, the gardens now have an excellent conservation collection of azalea species. Last week we received the sad news that Laurie Begg, a founding member of the ARSV, had passed away at the age of 95. Laurie was possibly our last link to the foundation of our organisation back in 1960. Laurie was an extraordinarily gifted plantsman, generous with his time, knowledge and plants, and his legacy lives on through these gardens.
